Description
Workshop "What IS fidelity, really?"Fidelity is a well-recognised concept in simulation-based medical education, and the term appears in many titles and abstracts of research papers. It is a multi-dimensional concept corresponding to the degree of realism demonstrated through pedagogical design. However, fidelity can often be over-simplified in discourse to binary labelling of ‘high’ or ‘low’ or inappropriately associated (or interchanged!) with the modality (the medium or model used to deliver a simulation) or to indicate the quality of simulation-based training.
Due to the importance of the concept within the field, and the potential impact on the learning objectives and outcomes for learners, it is imperative that those involved in simulation education consider appropriate application of fidelity and report this accurately in publications.
The aim of this workshop is to explore how fidelity is understood in 2024 and provide educational tools to improve future practice as simulation educators and researchers.
