Description

SrTiO3 nanoparticles have exhibited facet dependent properties in biochemistry, colloidal science and photocatalysis, but the mechanisms are still ambiguous, because most of the techniques lack the resolution or in-situ ability to measure the surface and interface parameters on different facets of a single particle in aqueous media. Here, we measured long range DLVO forces, short range structural hydration force and surface structure on {100} and {110} of single SrTiO3 nanoparticle using atomic force microscopy. With charge regulation method, surface charge densities were quantified and exhibited facet and pH dependency. From hydration measurement, more organized water layers can be detected on {100} than {110}. Our study can provide evidence for facet dependent phenomena in many other nanoparticle systems such as TiO2, BiVO4 est.
