This presentation provides an overview of spatial big data tools, technologies, and services currently available for data scientists. A basic comparison of spatial capabilities of relational (SQL) and NoSQL (mainly distributed) databases is provided. Distributed computing frameworks supporting spatial data are listed and performance indicators are summarized for selected frameworks. Current state of common machine learning (ML) frameworks (e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras) is discussed. Spatial-data oriented services provided by major cloud service providers (Microsoft, Amazon, and Google) are summarized and importance of early involvement (i.e. early access) to the services is highlighted. Research grants offered by these service providers are indicated. Finally, a summary of the current state of spatial big data tools is given.
