Description
Abstract: The LIFT of polymers for 3D applications is a novel topic which has not been studied significantly. Thermoplastic materials used for medical devices are interesting materials to be applied with LIFT. Although thermoplastic materials, such as Polylactic Acid (PLA) are utilized in medical device production due to their ability to melt at high temperatures, very little attention has been placed on high-resolution printing of these materials. In this study, we investigate the suitability of PLA for LIFT of biopolymers with an emphasis on identifying the processing window. Furthermore, craters formed in the PLA film donor material and the geometry of LIFT deposits are investigated. We will show and discuss the laser conditions which result in a laser-induced transfer of PLA.
