Workshop - Gaps and priorities in simulation-based education research: Co-creating a research roadmapResearch on simulation-based education (SBE) contributes to establishing the effectiveness and transferability of SBE, as well as the resulting performance improvements and outcomes.1 The field of simulation in healthcare has been evolving quickly over the past decade, with the emergence of translational simulation and immersive simulation.2 Developing a research agenda is beneficial to ensure cohesive progress in the field of simulation-based education research. Furthermore, having a clear research agenda supports the credibility of research on simulation-based education and widespread adoption of simulation in healthcare. As a community, this approach will help us focus on relevant, timely, and impactful research questions, thereby aligning with societal needs. Also, international collaboration will be strengthened through shared understanding.
It has been 15 years since the 2010 Utstein Style meeting,3 where a simulation-based healthcare education research agenda was published. The field has since experienced significant technological and educational advances alongside considerable societal changes. In this workshop, we collaborate on shared, collective research priorities for the next 5 to 10 years to accelerate, focus, and advance the field of simulation-based education research in Europe. This workshop is endorsed by the SESAM SiReN initiative and supported by the Dutch Society for Simulation in Europe and DUTCH (Digital United Training Concepts in Healthcare).

Intended Learning Outcomes
After the workshop, participants have acquired:
• An understanding of the importance of a research agenda;
• Knowledge of the research gaps on simulation-based education;
• A shared understanding of Europe’s (SESAM) simulation-based education research topics;
• Actions to move the research agenda forward.
