Description
In this overview talk we report on various problems related to the ubiquitous occurrence of bubbles in a multitude of fluid systems. First, we address bubble formation by nucleation. We will in particular focus on single bubble sonoluminescence, the formation of a light emitting bubble in a sound field, and on cavitation noise caused by the snapping shrimp. Second, we will focus on air entrainment through the impact of drops or solid objects on the surface of water. Third, we will discuss the formation of bubbles in soft sand through the impact of a steel ball.
