Description
Learn from our XR Lab research for embodied collaborative design research and education. We invite other initiatives to co-develop ideas for an (inter)national network of co-located XR environments.XR labs are crucial for XR research, education, and development, facilitating knowledge creation, idea exploration, skill training, and tool development. As XR extends from the physical to the virtual, these places must fully incorporate physical and virtual bodies, objects, and environments to explore, develop, test, and present innovative XR experiences connecting realities. In a long-term art- and design research collaboration between the Human Media Interaction department of the University of Twente and the HKU University of the Arts Utrecht, these XR spaces, tools, and methods have been iteratively developed for research, education, and artistic exploration cross-over activities in both institutes. These enable embodied creative interdisciplinary design collaborations in XR design environments where ideas and concepts can instantaneously emerge, be shared, adapted, and collectively evaluated in fast experiential prototype cycles.
This workshop shares our research and provides hands-on experience with our design methods and accompanying XR tools. However, we need you for the next step, connecting XR Labs in a (inter)national network of co-located XR environments. Therefore, in several rounds of structured body- and brainstorming sessions, we will map what is necessary to build collective infrastructure, tools, methods, and vocabulary to make sustainable long-term co-located research, design, and educational collaborations possible.
