Description

The research presented aimed to replace petroleum-based TDAE oil with bio-based alternatives to develop a more sustainable tire tread compound while maintaining comparable performance. The study proposed blending a bio-based di-ester oil with a resin. It was observed that increasing the resin content and decreasing the oil content raised the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the compound. A linear correlation between the oil-to-resin ratio and the Tg of the compound was established. This makes it possible to adjust the Tg of the compound by using various oil and resin concentrations. Furthermore, a 50/50 blend ratio of used di-ester oil to resin was identified as yielding properties most similar to the compound with TDAE oil. These findings contribute to the development of a sustainable tire.
