Description
Prosthetics to Orthotics: TransferableExpertise?
Research on prosthetics goes back centuries. Orthotics
are similar, yet uniquely different; they act parallel to
the impaired limb instead of replacing it. Hence orthotics
present control challenges and opportunities of a different
nature compared to prosthetics. Nevertheless, we believe
that orthotic research and development can greatly benefit
from the invaluable knowledge that has been gathered over
the past years in the field of orthotics. For this reason we
organized the symbosium entitled ”Prosthetics to Orthotics:
Transferable Expertise?” hosted at International Society of
Electrophysiology and Kinesiology (ISEK) 2016 congress
in Chicago, on the 8th of July 2016. During the symposium,
we held an evidence-based discussion between experts in
prosthetics.
