Description
Presented at Nordic Wood Biorefinery Conference 2024 - RISE-NWBC, this work explores the electrochemical transformation of carboxylic acids using boron-doped diamond (BDD) electrodes as a strategy for improving pyrolysis oil quality and treating wastewater streams. The study investigates the selective oxidation of carboxylic acids, contributing to the removal of oxygenated compounds that hinder fuel applications. Additionally, this research presents future strategies for paired electrolysis, optimizing electrode materials, and scaling up electrochemical processes for industrial applications. By advancing electrode performance and integrating paired electrolysis concepts, this work paves the way for more efficient and sustainable electrochemical technologies in biomass-derived oil upgrading and environmental remediation.
