Description

The 1st Thematic Report on Pollination, Pollinators, and Food Production in Brazil is the result of a partnership between the Brazilian Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (BPBES) and the Brazilian Network of Plant-Pollinator Interactions (REBIPP). The Brazilian Platform's mission is to synthesize the best available knowledge from academic science and traditional wisdom on biodiversity and ecosystem services, with a focus on the continental biomes of Brazil (Amazon, Atlantic Forest, Caatinga, Cerrado, Pantanal, Southern Grasslands) and the coastal-marine biome. To achieve this, it facilitates sectoral working meetings with various interest groups, such as representatives from the federal government, non-governmental organizations, businesses, indigenous communities, and journalists, to share key results, discuss, and receive feedback and suggestions. BPBES receives financial support from the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations, and Communications (MCTIC) through the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and from Fapesp, through the Biota Program, in addition to institutional support from SBPC, ABC, and FBDS. For the preparation of its thematic reports, which delve into urgent topics identified in the Brazilian Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Diagnosis, BPBES forms consolidated partnerships such as the one with REBIPP. The present report brings together an independent group of 12 authors, including university professors and researchers, who have been actively working on its composition since August 2017. It also undergoes thorough external review by 11 experts in the field, including environmental managers, decision-makers, as well as university professors and researchers. The complete report, along with the respective Summary for Decision-Makers (SDM), is available on the BPBES and REBIPP websites.
