Emile Dopheide graduated as an economist from the Erasmus University Rotterdam with a specialisation in Development Economics. As a lecturer and course coordinator he has an experience of more than 22 years in international education and training.
His key qualifications as an academic and lecturer are in the fields of spatial planning, impact assessment, cost-benefit analysis; environmental economics and disaster and risk management. In addition he has been developing and implementing curricula on project formulation and evaluation.
During his career at ITC, his expertise and qualifications broadened towards course management; curriculum development; educational quality assurance and (joint) international education. Emile Dopheide has a University Teaching Qualification and was winner of the ITC Education Award in December 2007.
The professional career of Emile Dopheide started with the United Nations in Latin America (Paraguay and Chile) where he worked with UNDP as a program officer and worked with the United Nations Economic Commission of Latin America and the Caribbean in research and advice on environmental indicators and monitoring.
Since 1993 Emile Dopheide works for ITC, in the first place in teaching and course development in fields as spatial planning; environmental economics; disaster and risk management; and natural resource management. He has developed and implemented a number of course modules at ITC ('Spatial Planning and Evaluation Methods'; 'Economic Valuation of the Environment'; 'Environmental Indicators'; 'Project Formulation and International Funding'; 'Cost-Benefit Analysis'; 'Urban Planning and Management'; 'Natural Resource Management'; 'Statistics').
For a number of years he has been course coordinator of the MSc programme Urban Planning and Management. In this position he was responsible for the course development and management as well as for joint international education.
Overseas (Bolivia, Colombia, Cuba, Georgia, Indonesia, Peru, Philippines, Mexico, Rwanda, Spain, Italy, Tanzania, United States, Zimbabwe) he has been involved in course development, advisory services, research and refresher courses. In overseas capacity building projects, he has been assigned duties in the field of curriculum development; training needs assessment and quality assurance.
Since June 2015 he occupies the position of educational manager at ITC. In this function he is responsible for developing programs of scientific education and the implementation, organization and quality assurance of education and education support within the faculty.
