I combine organic chemistry, physics and simulations to find solutions in multidisciplinary research. In particular, I focus on polymers that interact with other compounds such as nanoparticles, proteins and small organic molecules. The fundamental research I do is focused on practical applications that contribute to a more sustainable way of life.
I am investigating the recovery of proteins and small molecules from adhesive coatings for circular economies. Today, desorption requires large amounts of solvents or heat. I am developing a more sustainable solution by synthesizing coatings that change their affinity for substrates when an electric current is applied. For this research, I use molecular dynamic simulations, and couple this with practical results obtained with atomic force microscopy.
