Frank joined the ITC in 2014 as an Assistant Professor. His main research interests are collaborative and crowdsourced approaches to creating and processing geographic information, e.g. involving OpenStreetMap, geosocial media, or citizen science, and their impact on reproducibility and representativeness of results. Since 2009, he holds a PhD (Dr. sc. nat.) from the University of Zurich. Previous work includes three years as a post-doctoral researcher at the Joint Research Center of the European Commission, and several years as a research assistant at the Universities of Zurich and Hamburg on EU-funded projects on user-generated geographic content and spatio-temporal data analysis in urban contexts.
