Personal profile

Personal profile

I am a geographer with primary research interests in urban and regional development, agrarian transformations, migration, and climate change impacts. I have regional expertise and fieldwork experience in South Asia, particularly India. My PhD research on India’s Emergent Urban Formations was funded by an NWO Research Talent Grant, and published in a range of international journals such as the Annals of the American Association of Geographers, World Development, and the Economic and Political Weekly. For my postdoctoral research at the PGM department of the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation I am investigating how agrarian communities in Central India respond and adapt to climate change. Increasingly erratic weather patterns push hundreds of millions of people out of their agrarian livelihoods which sets them adrift in search for alternative ways to forge a living.

I am currently working as an Embassy Science Fellow at the Dutch Embassy in New Delhi. As a research attaché, my work helps inform Dutch foreign policy on issues of climate change impacts and agrarian vulnerability in India. The fellowship is funded through the NWO ESF-NL programme.

I was recently awarded on NWO Rubicon grant titled "The Age of Climate Migration: towards more accurate forecasting approaches of climate mobility".
