Roshanak Darvishzadeh is a senior Associate Professor (ius promovendi) in the Department of Natural Resources (NRS), Faculty of Geo-information Science and Earth Observation. Her research interests lie in quantitative remote sensing for mapping and modelling dynamics of plants' ecophysiological traits, aiming to enhance the understanding of ecosystem integrity and functioning and to explain the complexity and interactions within terrestrial ecosystems. Her research includes analysing remote sensing data from various platforms and scales for assessing vegetation dynamics, health, disease, and abiotic and biotic stress factors with applications in agricultural and natural ecosystems. In 2024, she was recognised as NL-CGIAR Senior Expert in Plant Health. She has a keen interest and considerable experience in capacity-building activities in the majority world. Dr Darvish has more than 25 years of experience in leading and carrying out international research projects. She is a member of several national and international professional associations and an associate editor for a number of remote sensing journals. Besides education, research activities, mentoring and supervision of MSc and PhD students, Dr Darvish is actively working toward fostering equal opportunities for women in academia, particularly in Earth observation science through the EO4ALL initiative. She co-chairs the sounding board group of associate professors in the Dutch Network of Women Professors (LNVH), which strives to improve the status of women from all backgrounds and advocates for an inclusive and safe academic environment.
