Roshanak Darvishzadeh is a senior Associate Professor (ius promovendi) in the Faculty of Geo-information Science and Earth Observation. Her research advances the assessment of ecosystem functioning and integrity by developing quantitative remote-sensing approaches to characterise and monitor vegetation dynamics and condition, including responses to stress, disturbance, and disease. Her research utilises field-measured physiological properties to investigate and interpret how remote sensing signals, particularly the rich spectral information from hyperspectral sensors, are influenced by interacting biotic and abiotic processes that jointly drive trajectories of change across diverse natural and managed ecosystems. She has a keen interest and considerable experience in capacity-building initiatives in the majority world, with over 25 years of experience in leading and conducting international research projects. In addition to serving as a guest editor for numerous remote sensing journals, she is a member of several national and international professional associations and an Associate Editor of the European Journal of Remote Sensing and Remote Sensing. Besides education, research activities, and mentoring and supervision of MSc and PhD students, Dr Darvish is actively working to foster equal opportunities for women in academia, particularly in Earth observation science, through the EO4ALL initiative. She is a board member of the Women's Academic Network Twente and chairs the sounding board group of associate professors in the Dutch Network of Women Professors (LNVH), which strives to improve the status of women from all backgrounds and advocates for an inclusive and safe academic environment.
