Abstract

In this paper, a novel Left Handed (LH) material to implement Composite Right and Left Handed (CR/L-H) Transmission Line (TL) is proposed. The LH material is a combination of series Inter-digital Capacitor (IDC) and a shunt annular ring inductor. The CR/L-H TL unit cell is coupled to the 50Ω microstrip line via capacitive coupling to realize the Bandpass Filter (BPF). The proposed BPF structure is analysed in two different Electromagnetic (EM) simulators and its transmission and reflection characteristics are compared. The proposed filter shows a fractional Bandwidth (BW) of 48.2% and an insertion loss as low as 0.2 dB. Size of the proposed filter is 0.40λg × 0.32 λg.
