    Abstract

The creation, labelling, use, and re-use of learning objects is an important area of development involving learning technology. In the higher education context, instructors typically use a course management system (CMS) to organize and manage their own learning objects. The needs and practices of individual instructors making use of a CMS have served as the basis for the development of a suite of tools relating to the lifecycle of learning objects and integrated within a particular CMS. Several of these tools are described and their integration within the CMS as well as within the regular working practice of the instructors is discussed.
