Abstract

The paper presents a survey of the concepts which are handled in the the FP5 IST-2001-34166 project called GEOPLEX which was launched in March 2002 by the European Commission. The paper is purely intented as an introduction to the special session of which it makes part of and as such does not mean to be a scientific contribution.
