title = "Associations of AI and common sense in the news",
abstract = "This chapter poses the question: Is there a common sense (CS) about AI emerging in modern society, and if so, what does it say in detail? For this purpose, the term CS is used in its most basic understanding, namely as a body of widely shared knowledge. A stock of knowledge is considered to be common if it is accepted as valid by more or less large parts of the public over a longer period of time. It includes not only cognitions (AI can make predictions) but also evaluative judgements (AI is useful) and even emotions (AI is frightening) which are taken for granted without further justification. To describe the development of popular wisdom about AI, around 1,000 German citizens over the age of 18 are surveyed every month since January 2020.",
