Abstract
In its basic form, work involves the performance of tasks, and a prime motivation to work is the payment one gets in return. Working earns people a living, but recent research suggests that, in the modern work arena, more is at stake than just money. It is as much about being alive as it is making a living. Work is portrayed as “a search for a sort of life, rather than a Monday to Friday sort of dying”, as the late Studs Terkel wrote.
