Abstract
The concept of grammar inheritance is introduced. Grammar inheritance is a structural organization of grammar rules by which a grammar inherits rules from ancestor grammars or may have its own rules inherited by descendant grammars. Grammar inheritance supports reusability and extensibility of grammar rules. The concept of grammar inheritance is especially useful in combination with a compiler generator. A compiler generator tool for the SMALLTALK language which supports grammar inheritance is discussed. This tool was implemented on a Sun3 workstation and extensively tested.
