N2 - Expressions (7) and (8) of [1] are incorrect. The correct expressions (7) and (8) should read, (Formula Presented). At the critical temperature, Tc, the mean square kink length of the triangular lattice should be 2a2 and not1a2. The slope in figure 5, i.e. (n2)/a = 2a, where a = 0.5nm is the lattice constant of the √3 × √3 R30° lattice of the decanethiol self-assembled monolayer on the Au(111) substrate, remains unaltered (slope is ~1nm) and therefore our conclusions remain valid.
