    Abstract

    The invention provides a use of a long-circulating microvesicle comprising a sterol, partially synthetic or wholly synthetic vesicle- forming phospholipids, and a corticosteroid in water soluble form, which microvesicle has a mean particle diameter size range of between about 75 and 150 nm and which microvesicle is non-charged or negatively charged at physiological conditions, for the preparation of a medicament for the treatment of atherosclerosis and/or cardiovascular disease. A method for treating a subject suffering from, or at risk of suffering from, atherosclerosis and/or cardiovascular disease, comprising administering to said subject a therapeutically effective amount of such long-circulating microvesicles is also provided.
