Abstract

In this report we present the results of a cost-benefit analysis of light-weight self-sustaining vegetated roofs that do not require structural modifications of a building when installed. Our results indicate that with a higher rate of implementation and realization of public benefits, green roofs might be a good investment for the society. However, currently the private benefits do not encourage to overcome the high installation costs in Finland. Thus, investment in green roofs might stay low without corrective policy instruments.
