N2 - This article focuses on the impact of population growth on the planetary boundary of the climate system. It develops an ethical approach examining policies that seem justifiable within the context of democratic reflection on the most effective means to combating climate change. Its critically engages with climate ethics debates on the issue of individual reproductive choices in the context of developed countries. By doing so, it investigates the main philosophical approaches and evaluates population growth reduction policies. It aims at justifying incentive measures and at defending them against common objections.
