    Abstract

Active contours are a popular method for extraction of object boundaries in medical images. However, they may fail to give correct results if there are other edges in the neighbourhood. To handle and even exploit a geometrical relation between neighbouring boundaries, we propose to use a set of coupled active contours. In this paper, the simultaneous extraction of epi- and endocardial contours is used to illustrate the operation of a set of coupled active contours.
