Developing a strategy for assessing the impact of the 2021 flood disaster on the elderly in the Ahr valley, Germany

The sudden-onset flood disaster in the summer of 2021 caught the Ahr basin residents by surprise and had an impact on the mental and social health and well-being of the affected people. This study will address how the 2021 flooding in the Ahr Valley, Germany, may have affected the mental and social health of elderly people. The study design, research approach, and methods of data collection will be introduced. Spatial data and analysis of the flood-affected area were used to improve our understanding of the flood-affected area and will help guide future analyses.
