N2 - The research described in this thesis focuses on the functionalization and pore size tuning of γ- and α-alumina membranes to be used for liquid separation. The research covers alumina grafted membranes with different silanes (alkyltrichlorosilanes and aminotrialkoxysilanes) and polymers like PDMS and polyimides. In addition, the application of these materials as membranes in solvent nanofiltration is described.
