Abstract
igital twins are emerging as a key technological enabler for Europe’s industrial future. As high-fidelity virtual replicas of physical systems, digital twins harness advances in artificial intelligence, connectivity, and the growing availability of data to enable real-time monitoring, simulation, and optimization. Their impact spans diverse domains, including manufacturing, healthcare, energy, logistics, and smart cities, playing a pivotal role in driving the green and digital transition.This chapter explores the foundational principles and strategic relevance for digital twins within the European context, with particular emphasis on the contributions of the AI, Data, and Robotics Association (ADRA). It outlines state-of-the-art technical approaches and highlights prominent use cases in this critical field.
