Abstract

In Digitize and Punish, Brian Jefferson offers a remarkably well-researched genealogy of the evolving role of information technology and computing throughout the criminal justice apparatus, from policing and the court system to the prison and parole systems. Focusing primarily on developments since the beginning of the War on Crime in the 1960s, the book traces the entanglement of policing and racial criminalization, urban change and deindustrialization, and the rise of information capital.
