Abstract
The initiative to develop a digital exchange format for spatial plans provides opportunities for base mapping. Topographic data sets can now be adjusted for the use as a planning base. The focus of the research project Digital Exchange of Spatial Plans base maps is the creation and online provision of suitable base maps, preferrably within a National Spatial Data infrastructure. At best, these base maps would be automatically derived from topographic and cadastral data. The objective of the generalisation process is to generate custom base maps based on the particular information requirements of the various user groups. The results of the research project shall provide insight into the opportunities and challenges of a demand-driven provision of geo-information within a National Spatial Data Infrastructure.
