Abstract

There is a growing interest in combining nature-based interventions with positive psychological interventions. This study aims to identify and synthesize studies investigating the effectiveness of Nature-based Positive Psychology Interventions (NBPPIs) in improving well-being and nature connectedness. A total of 1238 records were extracted from six databases. Ten randomized controlled trials with 2206 participants were included. Included trials showed substantial heterogeneity in study and intervention characteristics. All of the included interventions combined savoring with nature engagement. A significant between-group effect size (g = 0.27) indicated that NBPPIs are effective in improving well-being. A nonsignificant between-group effect size was found on nature connectedness (g = 0.35). These findings suggest that NBPPI is a promising way to improve well-being. Future research could investigate other types of NBPPI using rigorous randomized controlled trials.
