Abstract

The co‐complexed Ba²⁺ cation in the hetero‐dinuclear complex 1 stabilizes the carbon‐nickel bond that is formed in the reductive coupling of benzyl chloride and 1; the “PhCH₂Ni^II/Ba²⁺” intermediate reacts with CO₂ or acetic anhydride.
