Abstract
This chapter focuses on the intermediate level of universities, in particular on the role of deans and heads of departments in supporting transformational change for embedding sustainability in the department’s education, research and engagement portfolios. Deans will need specific tools and approaches to facilitate this transformation process. The chapter sheds light on obstacles faced by deans when embedding sustainability and the strategies and tools used to cope with them, providing guidelines for academic leaders looking for the building blocks of sustainability roadmaps for their departments.
