Abstract
Methods are presented to analyse and optimise the energetic performance of integrated coal gasification-combined cycle (IGCC) power plants. The methods involve exergy analysis and pinch technology and can be used to identify key process parameters and to generate alternative design options for improved energetic efficiency. The methods are demonstrated by analysing the initial design of a 600 MWc IGCC power plant based on the Shell coal gasification process.
