    Abstract

Wim During started his work at the University of Twente in 1973. During his academic career, he elaborated two main themes: (high tech) entrepreneurship and high-tech small firms. The essays in this book -published on the occasion of his retirement as professor of Innovative Entrepreneurship at the University of Twente - are about these two topics.More than twenty years ago, Wim During started up a first course in entrepreneurship, on the subject of becoming an entrepreneur. Five years later, he was a founding father of the Centre for Innovative Entrepreneur-ship Twente, and he has continued his enterprising activities within and outside the academic community ever since. With his retirement, he leaves entrepreneurship - through the Minor programme "Becoming an Entrepreneur" and the Dutch Institute for Knowledge Intensive Entrepreneurship, Nikos - as an established theme within academia, in education as well as research. Over the years, the University of Twente has gained international recognition as an entrepreneurial university, with Wim During being one of its forerunners. This book pays tribute to his many contributions.
