Abstract
We present the setup of a database of Large-Eddy simulations of decaying homogeneous isotropic turbulence at high Reynolds numbers, corresponding to recent physical experiments in the tradition of Comte-Bello and Corrsin. The error-landscape approach is used for the evaluation of LES using the Smagorinsky model in a spectral and a second-order discretization method. The results identify an optimal combination of model parameter and resolution in a statistical robust fashion. Issues associated with dynamics at the largest length-scales are discussed.
