Abstract
We derive an explicit formula for the rate with which a spherical cell with a large number of receptors in its outer membrane captures ligands which have a non-vanishing excluded volume. These corrections to the Berg-Purcell formula, which neglects excluded volume, turn out to be quite small in most cases of practical interest.
