Abstract
Permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSGs) can be considered as one of the most efficient utilized generator in modern wind turbines, for a wide range of wind turbines power. This paper tackles the implementation of a prototype low speed PMSG unit that can be used in low power low speed applications, followed by, a study of the performances of the implemented machine in three loading conditions: no-load condition, standalone connected to three phase resistive load and grid connected through a commercial inverter. The simulation based on Finite Element Method (FEM) is introduced to verify the design of this generator before practical implementation. Moreover, the experimental results shows and analyses the machine performances with various operating conditions, including Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) capability.
