Abstract
This study investigates how the current intensive care environment affects care activities and patients’ experiences, and the potential of turning the
ICU into a healing environment. A multi-center study consisting of an online survey and a semi-structured interview was conducted with a total of 25 ICU health care professionals from 4 Dutch hospitals. The study results provide an overview of
positive and negative factors of patient experience and challenges in care activities. Based on these insights, opportunities are discussed in creating a technology-enabled therapeutic environment.
