Abstract
Ammonia is currently used as a fertilizer and a chemical. Ammonia (NH3) is produced from hydrogen (H2) and nitrogen (N2). Ammonia does not contain carbon and is thus considered a zero-carbon fuel and hydrogen carrier. This requires ammonia production to decarbonize. This chapter covers ammonia production via the Haber-Bosch process, current ammonia production pathways, novel ammonia production pathways, and future uses of ammonia as a zero-carbon fuel and hydrogen carrier.
