    Abstract

A novel diode-laser Doppler velocimeter based on self-mixing feedback of Doppler shifted light in the laser through a single glass fibre is described. The instrument can be applied, for example, to the invasive measurement of blood velocities in blood vessels, and of other industrial fluids and solids. A model is presented to calculate modulation signals and the results of measurements are shown.
