Abstract

The textile industry is one of the most important productive sector worldwide and everyone, to some extent, is involved in its value chain, which is why it is essential to be informed about its benefits, problems and innovative deployed solutions. Therefore, this paper aims to present the advances made by this sector in its transition towards sustainable production and consumption patterns. A literature review of the life cycle stages of textile products was carried out, this allowed to identify diverse initiatives that either aimed to raise awareness of the environmental and social concerns attached to this sector or reported actions to solve those concerns. The findings show a lack of training and skills in sustainability issues of different stakeholders involved. From the value chain perspective, it was also noticeable that this sector is in need of tools to integrate and implement sustainable approaches in particular for those small and medium-sized companies.
