Abstract

Kinetic-theory, with the assumption of equipartition of granular energy, suggests that the pressure and viscosity of a granular mixture vary monotonically with the mass-ratio. The event-driven simulation of a sheared binary granular mixture were performed. The simulation results showed a nonmonotonic behavior that can be explained qualitatively by a simple method allowing for non-equipartition of granular energy between species of different mass.
