Abstract

The sentinel node procedure is applied routinely in most Dutch head and neck centers. Overall, the results are good. However, there is still room for improvements. The procedure itself consists of three steps: preoperative identification of the sentinel node, excision of the sentinel node and examination of the sentinel node. Within these steps research is performed with new tracers, cameras and other techniques to improve the sentinel node procedure.
