Inter-organisational collaborations in Dutch higher education

Abstract

This chapter presents an overview of inter-organisational collaborations in Dutch higher education. Firstly, different types of inter-organisational formations are described in a general sense, including the goals and motivations of establishing such formations. Secondly, after an explanation of the legal base for interorganisational cooperation in Dutch higher education, various strategic alliances and mergers are described, demonstrating the variety of inter-organisational formations as well as their success or failure. Particularly, cross-sectoral alliances face problems to come to fruition.
