Abstract
Research on occupational mobility usually concentrates on SC & sectoral divisions of society. In the Netherlands, however, mobility tables have been cast in a prestige format. This practice has largely withheld Dutch data from international comparative work. To redress this situation, SC mobility tables based on 10 national Central Bureau of Statistics surveys for the period 1970-1985, referring to Ms aged 21-64, are analyzed, using the SC scheme introduced by R. Erikson, J. H. Goldthorpe, & L. Portocarero (see SA 28:3/80K7643). Comparison of the tables shows a persistent tendency of increase of both absolute & relative mobility. This agrees with the conclusions of earlier research on the development of prestige mobility in the Netherlands between the 1950s & the 1970s.
