Abstract

A remote intervention program was designed and implemented during 8 weeks to develop the self-regulation skills for the practice of physical activity in university students, with the objectives of increasing their self-efficacy, improve their decisional balance (perception of pros and cons), and to facilitate their progress through the stages of motivational readiness for change in that behavior. Due to the dropout rate, which was similar to other remote intervention programs, the final sample consisted of 12 university undergraduates aged 18-25 years (M=19.5;SD =2.11). The results of such intervention were evaluated, showing significant positive results in their self-efficacy to walking daily, exercising, and performing physical activity overall. It also facilitated the progress through the stages of motivational readiness for change for most of the participants in the program. Despite the limitations and areas of opportunity of the program, it is concluded that a remote intervention program can deliver significant changes in the adoption and maintenance of health-promoting behaviors, such as the practice of physical activity.
